Vaibhav Suryabanshi, only 14 years old, has been the star of the Asia Cup Rising Stars, amassing 239 runs in just four innings, including a sensational century and a tournament-leading 22 sixes. Despite this, he was conspicuously absent from India ‘A’’s Super Over against Bangladesh ‘A’, a decision that has sparked outrage among fans and cricketing experts.
Suryabanshi had earlier blitzed 38 runs off 15 balls in the semi-final, clearing four sixes and two fours, effectively keeping India in contention. Yet when the Super Over arrived, the young prodigy did not get the opportunity to influence the result. His absence left many questioning why one of the tournament’s brightest talents was sidelined at the most crucial juncture.
Cricket analysts suggest that Suryabanshi’s omission may have cost India ‘A’ the match. “When a player is in such irresistible form, especially in T20 formats, it is almost instinctive to send him at the key moment,” said one commentator.
Even though India ‘A’ tied the match in the final regular over, the Super Over quickly exposed the weakness of leaving Suryabanshi out. The teenager’s record-breaking form underscores that the decision may have been a tactical misstep.
