Rumours of a sensational player swap between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals have sent shockwaves through the IPL circuit. Sources suggest that CSK could acquire Sanju Samson, while Ravindra Jadeja may move to Rajasthan, potentially along with Sam Curran or Matheesha Pathirana.
Mohammad Kaif, former India cricketer, believes that such a deal could herald MS Dhoni’s final season in the IPL. Speaking online, Kaif said: “Dhoni has been synonymous with CSK since 2008. A swap of this magnitude could see him step down, making way for a long-term leader in Sanju Samson.”
Kaif also commented on Jadeja’s brief captaincy, noting that leading a side in the IPL is demanding. “Dhoni is already thinking ahead. Bringing in Samson may be about securing the franchise’s future,” he explained.
Last season, CSK struggled despite Ruturaj Gaikwad starting as captain. Dhoni had to resume leadership mid-season due to injury. Both teams underperformed in IPL 2025, with RR finishing ninth and CSK last.
Should this swap materialise, it would not only revamp CSK’s leadership structure but potentially conclude the career of a cricketing icon.
