Hridoy Leads Bangladesh in Zimbabwe T20I Series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe, with young batter Towhid Hridoy entrusted with the captaincy in the absence of regular skipper Litton Das. The decision marks a significant milestone in Hridoy’s international career, offering him his first opportunity to lead the national side at senior level.

Litton Das has been rested for the series as part of the team’s workload management strategy, while experienced fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has also been given a break to manage his fitness amid a demanding international schedule. The move reflects Bangladesh’s broader approach of balancing immediate competitiveness with the long-term wellbeing of key players.

The selectors have introduced several notable changes to the squad. Shamim Hossain Patwari and Soumya Sarkar, both involved in recent T20I assignments, have been omitted from the latest selection. In contrast, experienced all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain Saikat and middle-order batter Yasir Ali Chowdhury Rabbi have earned recalls after spending an extended period outside the national set-up. Their return provides both players with an opportunity to re-establish themselves in Bangladesh’s white-ball plans.

Bangladesh have been working steadily to strengthen their T20 side through tactical adjustments and squad rotation. The Zimbabwe tour is expected to serve as another important step in that process, allowing the team management to assess emerging talent while also evaluating the effectiveness of fresh leadership. With a blend of experienced campaigners and promising younger cricketers, the squad has been assembled with an eye on both immediate results and future international commitments.

The three-match series will be played at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, one of Zimbabwe’s most established cricket venues. The opening match is scheduled for 15 July, followed by the second fixture on 17 July and the third and final encounter on 19 July. All three matches are set to begin at 4:30 pm Bangladesh time.

The tour carries added significance for Bangladesh as the team continues preparations for a busy international calendar. Apart from testing combinations under a new captain, the series will allow reserve players to gain valuable international exposure. Such opportunities are considered vital for building greater squad depth, ensuring that capable replacements are available when senior players are rested or unavailable.

Zimbabwe, meanwhile, have traditionally proved to be a competitive side in home conditions. Although Bangladesh will enter the series aiming to secure a positive result, the visitors are unlikely to underestimate the challenge posed by the hosts. The conditions in Bulawayo often demand adaptability from both batters and bowlers, making consistency and disciplined execution crucial throughout the series.

Bangladesh’s selected T20I squad comprises Towhid Hridoy (captain), Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan, Mohammad Saif Hassan, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Yasir Ali Chowdhury Rabbi, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana, Mohammad Saifuddin and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain.
