Desert Vipers’ Perfect Run: Six Wins and Counting!

The Desert Vipers continue to make history in the ILT20 2025-26, becoming the first team to secure a playoff berth after defeating Dubai Capitals in an exhilarating contest on Sunday, 14 December. With a flawless record of six wins from six games, the Vipers are signalling their intent to dominate the tournament.

Dubai Capitals, elected to bat first, struggled from the outset as fast bowler Naseem Shah removed Shayan Jahangir in the third over. The Vipers maintained relentless pressure during the powerplay, conceding only 35 runs for the loss of one wicket. Gulbadin Naib and Leus du Plooy provided a crucial partnership, adding 39 runs before Noor Ahmad broke through again to remove Naib.

Du Plooy’s assault brought some excitement, including a 38-ball fifty highlighted by a six off Naseem Shah. But Sam Curran’s brilliance turned the tide once more, capturing du Plooy and Rovman Powell in consecutive deliveries, derailing the Capitals’ chase for momentum. Jordan Cox and Dasun Shanaka finished strongly with an unbeaten 72-run partnership, setting the Vipers a target of 167.

The Vipers’ reply began at breakneck speed. Max Holden dominated the early overs, striking six of seven powerplay boundaries. Despite losing Fakhar Zaman and Holden, the chase was under control thanks to crucial contributions from Hasan Nawaz and Dan Lawrence. Curran’s composed innings, including timely boundaries and a six, ensured the Vipers crossed the line with five wickets and just one delivery to spare.

This victory further cements the Vipers’ reputation as one of the most dominant teams in the tournament. Curran’s all-round performance, taking two key wickets and scoring a match-winning fifty, demonstrates why he is central to the Vipers’ success. With several matches still to play in the league phase, Desert Vipers look set to be a formidable force heading into the knockout stages.
