BCB Introduces E-Bike Incentives for T20 Series Against New Zealand

DHAKA — Following a resilient recovery to clinch the One Day International (ODI) series 2-1, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has introduced a substantial performance incentive for the forthcoming Twenty20 International (T20I) series against New Zealand. In a strategic move designed to galvanise the squad and sustain high competitive intensity, the board has announced that top performers will be eligible for high-value electronic vehicles.

The national squad is currently observing a three-day hiatus before the shortest format commences on 27 April 2026. During this interim period, it was confirmed that the standout Bangladeshi cricketer in each of the three T20I fixtures will be designated as the “Most Valuable Bangladeshi Player of the Match”.

Incentive Rationale and Vehicle Specifications

The President of the BCB, Tamim Iqbal, confirmed that recipients of this prestigious accolade will be presented with an Eloop brand e-bike. Each vehicle carries a significant market value of approximately 290,000 Bangladeshi Taka.

The governing body has outlined that the primary objective of this initiative is to incentivise elite individual contributions, foster additional on-field motivation, and encourage a rigorous competitive spirit within the national side. Crucially, this award is independent of the official “Player of the Match” title presented by match organisers. This distinction ensures a domestic player is rewarded even if the team suffers a defeat, provided their individual performance is deemed the most valuable among the home contingent.

Reflection on ODI Success and Recent Form

The introduction of these rewards follows a dramatic turnaround during the ODI leg of the tour. Bangladesh initially faltered, losing the opening match by 26 runs to a Dean Foxcroft inspired New Zealand side. However, the hosts displayed notable fortitude in the subsequent matches to secure the series:

  • Second ODI: Fast bowler Nahid Rana claimed a decisive five-wicket haul, leading Bangladesh to a six-wicket victory and earning Player of the Match honours.

  • Series Decider: Najmul Hossain Shanto anchored the innings with a commanding 105, resulting in a 55-run win and a total series victory for the hosts.

Squad Selection and Tactical Adjustments

The BCB selection panel has finalised a 15-man roster for the first two T20I fixtures, notably opting to provide a period of rest to senior pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, alongside the in-form Nahid Rana.

A significant highlight of the selection is the maiden call-up of the uncapped all-rounder Abdul Gaffar Saklain, who has entered the senior national setup following strong domestic performances. Litton Das retains the captaincy for the series, supported by Saif Hassan, who has been appointed as his deputy.

The confirmed Bangladesh T20I Squad:

  • Litton Das (Captain), Saif Hassan (Vice-Captain), Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shamim Hossain, Towhid Hridoy, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Ripon Mondol, Mohammad Saifuddin, Abdul Gaffar Saklain.

T20I Series Schedule

The series provides a vital platform for the younger members of the squad to establish their credentials in the T20 format ahead of a busy international calendar.

The integration of high-value luxury rewards marks a growing trend in South Asian cricket, aimed at maintaining peak intensity during bilateral series that do not fall under major ICC tournaments. As the team prepares for the opening clash at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, the focus remains on whether these tangible incentives will translate into a dominant series performance on home soil.
