Sharjah Falls Short Despite Tashkeen’s Effort

In a thrilling encounter at the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates on Monday, Dubai Capitals, led by Mustafizur Rahman, clinched a decisive victory over Sharjah Warriors, defeating them by eight wickets and confirming their place in the tournament semifinals. Chasing a modest target of 134, Dubai reached their target with five balls to spare, showcasing a composed batting performance.

Sharjah Warriors’ pacer, Tashkeen Ahmed, bowled a total of 3.1 overs, conceding 29 runs and claiming a solitary wicket. Despite his efforts, Sharjah could not defend their total. On the other hand, Mustafizur Rahman delivered a disciplined spell of 4 overs, giving away just 27 runs while picking up a crucial wicket, earning plaudits for his controlled bowling. This victory elevated Dubai Capitals to third place on the points table with 10 points from 9 matches, while Sharjah slipped to the bottom with six losses from an equal number of matches.

Winning the toss, Dubai Capitals opted to field first. Sharjah struggled to build partnerships and consistently lost wickets at regular intervals, restricting their score to 134 in 20 overs. Mustafizur’s opening spell was particularly economical, conceding only 15 runs in the first three overs, setting the tone for Dubai’s bowlers.

Tashkeen Ahmed made a significant impact in his second over, conceding a boundary off the second delivery after Sharjah captain Tim Southee’s unsuccessful review in the first over. In his subsequent spell, he gave away 18 runs in three overs, primarily to Dubai opener Shayan Jahangir. He managed to turn the game momentarily in his third over by dismissing Louis Du Plessis, but the pressure could not be sustained as Tim Southee failed to maintain control at the other end.

In the final two overs, Dubai required 21 runs. Jordan Cox took charge, hitting four consecutive boundaries in the 19th over to virtually seal the game. In the last over, with just three runs needed, Rovman Powell struck a six off Tashkeen’s first ball, completing a comfortable victory for Dubai.

The win not only cements Dubai’s semifinal berth but also reinforces their credentials as one of the tournament favourites.
