Security arrangements have been strengthened at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka ahead of the forthcoming election of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Board of Directors, scheduled to be held on 7 June. The development comes as nomination papers continue to be bought and submitted, with councillors actively engaged in election-related procedures.
In a press release issued on Thursday, 21 May, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that enhanced security measures have been implemented across all entry points to its office premises located within the stadium complex.
According to the statement, the ongoing election-related administrative activities, including the collection and submission of nomination forms, have necessitated stricter access control. As a result, all gates leading to the BCB office area inside the stadium have been placed under reinforced security supervision. Security personnel, including members of the Ansar force and designated security staff, have been deployed to ensure controlled access and to maintain order within the premises.
The board further noted that journalists and media personnel visiting the stadium complex are required to cooperate with security staff during entry procedures. Media representatives have been requested to comply with identity verification checks conducted at the gates to facilitate smooth access and to avoid delays in entry.
To ensure effective verification, all accredited journalists are advised to carry official identification cards issued by their respective media organisations at all times when entering the premises. This requirement has been introduced to streamline the identification process and to support the enhanced security arrangements currently in place.
The BCB has also called for full cooperation from all concerned parties in maintaining the prescribed security protocols. The board emphasised that adherence to these measures is essential for ensuring a safe and orderly environment during the ongoing electoral process.
The Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium serves as the central venue for the board’s administrative operations, including election-related activities. With the electoral process underway, increased movement of candidates, councillors, and administrative personnel has been observed within the premises, prompting the introduction of additional security controls.
| Area of Security Enhancement | Measure Implemented |
|---|---|
| Main entrance gates | Reinforced security checks and controlled access |
| Office premises access | Increased monitoring and identity verification |
| Media entry procedures | Mandatory ID verification and cooperation with security staff |
| Internal premises | Deployment of security personnel and Ansar members |
The enhanced security framework is intended to ensure the orderly continuation of nomination-related activities and to maintain controlled access to sensitive administrative areas during the election period.
