Rangpur Riders Pay Half of Players’ Fees Ahead of BPL Kick-off

Rangpur Riders have set an encouraging precedent ahead of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) by paying 50 per cent of their players’ contracted fees even before the tournament has begun. The gesture, made during a training session at the Bashundhara Sports City, has been warmly received by members of the squad, including national stars Nurul Hasan Sohan and Litton Das.

Under standard BPL regulations, franchises are required to pay players in three instalments. Typically, 25 per cent of the agreed fee must be settled before the tournament begins, a further 50 per cent during the course of the competition, and the remaining 25 per cent within a month of the tournament’s conclusion. Rangpur Riders, however, have gone beyond the minimum requirement by doubling the initial payment and handing over 50 per cent upfront.

This move has been widely applauded, particularly in the context of recurring financial disputes that have marred previous editions of the BPL. Delays and non-payments have often overshadowed on-field action, undermining player morale and public confidence. In the most recent season, players from Durbar Rajshahi were forced to boycott training sessions after failing to receive their dues on time, an episode that attracted considerable criticism.

Against that backdrop, Rangpur Riders’ approach stands out as both professional and player-centric. The franchise, champions on one previous occasion, has built a reputation for financial discipline and organisational stability. Over successive seasons, they have consistently ensured timely payments and adequate facilities for players and support staff alike, earning respect across the league.

Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah was quick to praise the management, expressing his satisfaction with the franchise’s conduct. “The management of Rangpur Riders is excellent. Thanks be to Allah,” he said, reflecting a sentiment shared by many within the camp. Such confidence off the field often translates into stronger performances on it, as players are able to focus fully on preparation and competition rather than contractual concerns.

The twelfth edition of the BPL is set to begin on 26 December, promising another festival of T20 cricket. The opening day will see Sylhet Strikers take on Rajshahi Warriors in the afternoon fixture at Sylhet, followed by a night match between Noakhali Express and Chattogram Challengers. With franchises like Rangpur Riders demonstrating financial responsibility before a ball has even been bowled, the league enters the new season on a notably positive note.
