Pakistan Sweep Sends Bangladesh Above India in Test Rankings

Bangladesh completed a landmark Test series whitewash over Pakistan on home soil after securing a 78-run victory in the Sylhet Test. The result not only confirmed Bangladesh’s first-ever home Test series clean sweep, but also lifted the side above India in the latest ICC World Test Championship standings.

The victory was shaped by a century from Litton Das in Bangladesh’s first innings and a decisive six-wicket spell from Taijul Islam during Pakistan’s final chase. Under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh registered their second consecutive Test series whitewash against Pakistan national cricket team.

Following the conclusion of the Sylhet Test, the International Cricket Council updated the World Test Championship table. Bangladesh climbed to fifth position with a points percentage of 58.33 after playing four matches in the 2025–27 cycle. The team have won two matches, lost one and drawn one.

India dropped to sixth place in the standings. After nine matches, India national cricket team have recorded four victories, four defeats and one draw, leaving them with a points percentage of 48.15.

At the top of the table are Australia national cricket team, who have won six of their seven matches and lost one, giving them a points percentage of 87.50. New Zealand national cricket team occupy second position after two wins and a draw from three matches. South Africa national cricket team and Sri Lanka national cricket team are placed third and fourth respectively.

In the Sylhet Test, Bangladesh scored 278 in the first innings after Litton Das produced an important century under pressure. Pakistan replied with 232, allowing Bangladesh to take a first-innings lead of 46 runs.

Bangladesh then strengthened their advantage by posting 390 in the second innings, setting Pakistan a target of 437. Despite resistance from the visitors, Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 358. Taijul Islam led the bowling attack in the final innings with six wickets, helping Bangladesh secure the 78-run victory.

The series result represents another notable achievement for Bangladesh in Test cricket and further strengthens their position in the ongoing World Test Championship campaign.
