Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana has been named among the nominees for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Player of the Month award for April, marking another significant milestone in the rise of one of the country’s most promising pace bowlers.
The 23-year-old secured his place on the shortlist after delivering a series of impressive performances during Bangladesh’s home One-Day International series against New Zealand. Bangladesh won the three-match contest 2-1, with Nahid playing a decisive role in the success through disciplined and aggressive bowling.
Across the series, the right-arm pacer claimed eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.46, underlining both his wicket-taking ability and control. His consistent performances earned him the Player of the Series award, further strengthening his reputation as a growing force in Bangladesh’s bowling attack.
Nahid’s standout display came in the second ODI at Mirpur, where he produced a match-winning spell of 5 wickets for 32 runs. His destructive bowling dismantled New Zealand’s batting order and helped Bangladesh secure a commanding 55-run victory. In the series decider in Chattogram, he maintained his momentum by adding two more wickets, ensuring Bangladesh sealed the series with confidence.
Nahid has recently emerged as a key figure in Bangladesh’s pace department. Known for his sharp pace, disciplined line and length, and ability to perform under pressure, he has quickly become one of the most closely watched young bowlers in the national setup. Bangladesh cricket has historically relied heavily on spin, making the emergence of genuine pace options such as Nahid particularly valuable ahead of future international assignments.
He faces competition from two other nominees in the men’s category: Oman captain Jatinder Singh and United Arab Emirates pacer Aayan Kumar.
Jatinder enjoyed a prolific month with the bat in ODI cricket, scoring 266 runs at an average of 53.20 and a strike rate of 115.15. His most notable innings came against Nepal, where he smashed 139 runs from 91 deliveries, an innings widely regarded as one of the standout knocks of the month.
Meanwhile, UAE left-arm seamer Aayan Kumar impressed with the ball, taking nine wickets across the month. After claiming 3 for 34 against Nepal, he followed it with a remarkable 6 for 35 against Oman, strengthening his case for the award.

The women’s shortlist also features strong contenders, including Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa, Imesha Dulani of Sri Lanka, and Brazil all-rounder Laura Cardoso.
South Africa captain Wolvaardt compiled back-to-back scores of 69 in the ODI series against New Zealand before producing a century and three half-centuries in a T20I series win over India. Dulani impressed against Bangladesh in the ICC Women’s Championship, scoring 116 runs and later adding 82 runs in the subsequent T20I series.
Brazil’s Cardoso delivered perhaps the most extraordinary all-round numbers of the month, scoring 203 runs and taking 17 wickets in T20 cricket, including a stunning spell of 9 wickets for 4 runs against Lesotho.
Nahid Rana’s nomination is an encouraging sign for Bangladesh cricket, reflecting both his personal development and the country’s growing pace resources. If he maintains this level of performance, he could establish himself as one of Bangladesh’s leading fast bowlers in the coming years.
