The Bangladesh national cricket team faces the threat of a series whitewash as they prepare for the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) against Australia. In a significant blow to the hosts, regular captain Litton Kumar Das has been ruled out of this crucial final fixture. The opening batsman is currently suffering from an injury to his left hamstring (rear leg muscle).
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officially confirmed the captain’s unavailability for the final match through a formal press release. The board stated that Litton’s recovery from the left leg injury has not progressed sufficiently to allow his participation. Consequently, he has been deemed unfit to take the field for the series finale.
Due to this persistent leg injury, Litton was also unable to feature in the first two matches of the T20I series against Australia. In his absence, the vice-captain of the squad, Towhid Hridoy, has been leading the national team as the stand-in captain. Hridoy will continue to fulfil these leadership duties in the final match.
Australia has already secured the three-match T20I series by winning the opening two encounters. The visitors won the first T20I by four wickets, followed by a narrow seven-run victory in the second match, establishing an unassailable 2-0 lead. Bangladesh and Australia will face each other tomorrow in the final T20I, with the home side aiming to avert a clean sweep.
Prior to the T20I leg, Bangladesh enjoyed success in the One Day International (ODI) segment of the bilateral tour. The hosts defeated Australia by a 2-1 margin in the three-match ODI series. However, they have been unable to replicate that 50-over form in the shortest format of the game.
