Habibur Rahman delivered an explosive innings at Mirpur, equalling the fastest fifty record in Bangladesh’s List ‘A’ cricket during a dhaka Premier League fixture between Legends of Rupganj and Mohammedan. The milestone was reached in just 15 deliveries, matching the record previously set by Parvez Hossain.
The landmark moment came off a delivery from Taijul Islam. Attempting a glance towards the slip region, Habibur edged the ball between Towhid Hridoy and wicketkeeper Enamul Haque. Despite a chance for a catch, the ball ran away to the boundary, allowing Habibur to complete his half-century. Notably, this stroke was arguably the least controlled of his innings, which was otherwise marked by authoritative hitting.
Prior to that moment, Habibur had dominated Mohammedan’s bowling attack comprehensively. A particularly decisive phase came in the fifth over, bowled by Nahid Rana, where 26 runs were conceded. Nahid, who has drawn attention in international cricket in recent months, was making his Dhaka Premier League debut in this match. His introduction proved challenging, as Habibur immediately asserted control.
The over began with a boundary struck over extra cover. This was followed by a six executed with an inside-out shot over the covers. After a dot ball, Habibur struck consecutive sixes—one over long-off and another over square leg. The final delivery was lifted over Mushfiqur Rahim’s head for a boundary through long-on, taking the total from the over to 26 runs.
Habibur’s aggressive approach was evident even earlier. In another over, he took 25 runs off Taskin Ahmed, a national team fast bowler also making his first appearance of the season in the competition. That over included two sixes and two fours, further underlining the batter’s dominance.
A summary of Habibur Rahman’s innings is presented below:
| Metric | Performance |
|---|---|
| Runs | 59 |
| Balls Faced | 27 |
| Fours | 6 |
| Sixes | 5 |
| Fifty | 15 balls |
| Dismissal | LBW (Taibur Rahman) |
Despite setting a record, Habibur did not remain at the crease for long. He was dismissed leg before wicket by Taibur Rahman after scoring 59 runs from 27 deliveries, an innings that included six fours and five sixes.
The record he equalled was established in the previous Dhaka Premier League season, when Parvez Hossain scored a 15-ball fifty for Abahani against Shinepukur Cricket Club. Before that, the benchmark had been held for six years by Farhad Reza, who scored an 18-ball fifty for Prime Doleshwar against Dhanmondi Club in 2019.
In addition to this achievement, Habibur Rahman also holds the record for the fastest century by a Bangladeshi in List ‘A’ cricket. He reached that milestone in 49 balls while representing North Zone against Central Zone in a BCL one-day match in Cox’s Bazar, a record that remains unmatched among Bangladeshi players in this format.
