Ben Stokes in ‘Beast Mode’ Ahead of Ashes, Says Ben Duckett

England’s star all-rounder, Ben Stokes, is in “beast mode” ahead of the Ashes series, according to his teammate Ben Duckett. The 34-year-old captain has been in intense training ahead of the first Test in Perth, starting on November 21, after recovering from a shoulder injury that kept him out since July. Duckett believes the team is evolving from a side that has been “reckless at times” in the past and is not carrying any “baggage” from previous Ashes campaigns.

Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast, Duckett praised Stokes’ form and work ethic, describing him as “crucial” to England’s chances. Despite missing the final stages of the season due to injury, Stokes has made a strong recovery, with the all-rounder performing intensive training sessions, including bowling multiple spells and batting for long hours.

“He’s in beast mode right now,” Duckett said. “He’s been running, bowling two spells, and batting for two hours – he’s probably the most important man in this side when he’s bowling. Hopefully, he stays fit for all five Tests, as he is absolutely crucial for us.”

Duckett also emphasised the progress the team has made under Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. In the past, England’s aggressive style of play has been called “reckless,” but Duckett believes the team is now more focused and less prone to mistakes.

“We’re evolving,” Duckett added. “In the past, we’ve been reckless at times, but we’re definitely trying to move away from that. I don’t think we’re carrying any baggage from previous tours. We’re just focusing on the present and taking each day as it comes.”

Stokes’ fitness will be a key factor in England’s Ashes hopes. Despite the shoulder injury, he impressed in the summer with both bat and ball. He took 20 wickets across five Tests, with an average of 24.05, while also hitting his first Test century in two years.
