The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a stern and unequivocal denial regarding rumours circulating on social media that the Board’s President, Aminul Islam, is under investigation for match-fixing. In an official press release, the governing body characterised the claims as “baseless, fabricated, and malicious,” asserting that these reports are part of a deliberate campaign to tarnish the reputation of the President and the integrity of national cricket.
Investigative Claims Refuted by ICC Official
The controversy gained momentum following social media posts claiming that Alex Marshall, the outgoing General Manager of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Integrity Unit, was spearheading an inquiry into Islam’s conduct. However, the BCB has clarified that no such investigation exists.
To dispel any ambiguity, the Board shared a written statement attributed to Alex Marshall himself, in which he categorically denied the allegations. “The claim that I am investigating BCB President Aminul Islam for involvement in match-fixing is entirely untrue and a complete fabrication,” Marshall stated, according to the BCB communique.
Legal Action and Institutional Integrity
In response to the spread of misinformation, the BCB has initiated formal legal proceedings. A General Diary (GD) was lodged today at the Mirpur Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The Board has signalled its intent to pursue both criminal and civil remedies against the individuals and digital platforms responsible for orchestrating this smear campaign.
The BCB expressed deep concern over the potential damage such “fake news” could inflict upon the sport’s credibility on the global stage. The Board emphasised that protecting the sanctity of the game is its highest priority and that it will not tolerate targeted character assassination of its officials or players.

A Zero-Tolerance Policy
The Board concluded its statement by reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of corruption or defamation. By taking immediate legal action, the BCB aims to send a clear message to those utilising digital platforms to destabilise the cricketing fraternity.
“The BCB remains committed to the highest standards of transparency,” the statement read. “We will take the harshest possible measures against any platform or individual found to be engaging in harmful activities directed at our players or officials.”
