BCB Demands Investigation Into Nayeem Hasan Assault

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a formal statement expressing deep concern over the physical assault and harassment of national team spin bowler Nayeem Hasan. The regulatory body affirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of all national cricketers. It announced that it is closely monitoring the situation while collaborating with local law enforcement to ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation.

According to the official communique released by the board on Saturday morning, the incident occurred on Friday night in Chittagong. The BCB characterised the aggressive and inappropriate actions directed at an international athlete as entirely unacceptable and deeply regrettable.

Board Initiatives and Inter-Agency Cooperation

The cricket board has elevated the matter to a priority status, demanding that the relevant authorities identify the culprits and enforce strict disciplinary measures.

“An unacceptable and inappropriate encounter with a national cricketer is highly regrettable,” the BCB statement noted. “The board views this matter with the utmost seriousness and believes that a swift and proper investigation into such an incident is necessary. The board expects that an impartial and full inquiry will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible.”

Furthermore, the BCB confirmed that its administrative staff have established and maintained continuous communication with the 26-year-old off-spinner and his family members. The board is actively providing comprehensive legal and logistical support to the player. To ensure a lawful resolution, senior BCB officials are working in tandem with the Chittagong metropolitan administration and local law enforcement leadership.

Context of the Assault

The physical altercations transpired after Nayeem Hasan arrived at Chittagong airport from Dhaka, following his participation in a domestic Dhaka Premier League fixture. The cricketer had chartered a three-wheeled auto-rickshaw (CNG) to travel to his private residence.

Upon reaching the entrance of the Lalkhan Bazar flyover, his vehicle was intercepted by individuals identifying themselves as members of the Detective Branch (DB) of the police. Hasan was forcibly extracted from the auto-rickshaw and compelled to enter a police vehicle. Despite explicitly communicating his identity as a national cricket player representing Bangladesh, he was subjected to physical violence and sustained verbal abuse.
