The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced the final names of the five franchises for the 2023-24 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Initially, 11 organisations expressed interest in acquiring BPL franchise rights, but following a thorough review of their documents and past experiences, three organisations were excluded in the preliminary selection process. Subsequently, five teams were chosen in the final selection.
The BCB revealed the names of these franchises on 6th November. The upcoming BPL tournament is scheduled to take place from 19th December to 16th January. On 4th November, the tournament’s executive secretary, Iftakhar Rahman Mithu, confirmed this potential date during a meeting.
This year’s BPL sees a few changes in the names of the franchises, though some teams will retain their familiar titles. Notably, the Rangpur Riders and Dhaka Capitals will continue to play under their established names. However, the franchises representing Sylhet, Rajshahi, and Chattogram have undergone name changes. The Sylhet franchise will now be known as the Sylhet Titans, Rajshahi’s team has become the Rajshahi Warriors, and Chattogram’s team has adopted the name Chittagong Royals.
One of the most significant changes this season is the renaming of Chattogram’s team to Chittagong Royals, which has already sparked interest among fans.
Here’s a quick look at the final five franchises for this year’s BPL:
| Team | Franchise Name |
|---|---|
| Dhaka | Dhaka Capitals |
| Rangpur | Rangpur Riders |
| Sylhet | Sylhet Titans |
