American star involved in a fixing scandal ahead of the World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has levied serious corruption allegations against United States cricketer Aaron Jones, temporarily banning him from all forms of cricket. The charges relate to breaches of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) and ICC Anti-Corruption Codes, casting a shadow over the 31-year-old player ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

In an official media release, the ICC stated that Jones faces five separate charges connected to match-fixing and associated misconduct during the 2023–24 Caribbean domestic tournament, BIM10. Three of these charges fall under the CWI Anti-Corruption Code, while the remaining two are international match-related offences investigated under the ICC code.

The allegations suggest that Jones may have been involved in attempts to manipulate match outcomes or pace, conceal information about corrupt approaches, fail to cooperate with anti-corruption investigations, and hide or distort crucial evidence. The ICC emphasised that these accusations form part of a broader, ongoing investigation, which may implicate additional players or personnel in the future.

In light of these charges, Jones has been placed under provisional suspension from all cricket activities. He has been given 14 days from 28 January 2026 to submit a written response to the allegations. The ICC confirmed that no further comments will be made until the disciplinary process is concluded.

Jones, who earned his international debut in 2019, was attending the United States training camp in Sri Lanka ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. The camp initially included 18 players, from which the final 15-man squad is due to be selected. With the provisional suspension in place, Jones will miss the opportunity to compete in the tournament.

Over his international career, Jones has played 52 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 48 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for the United States. He has also featured in prominent franchise leagues such as the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and Major League Cricket (MLC).
