Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Adnan Rahman Dipon has come under intense scrutiny following allegations of rampant corruption during the interim board’s tenure. In a recent interview with a private television channel, Dipon claimed that the six-month term of the recently dissolved interim board has set a new record in the history of Bangladeshi cricket for irregularities and financial mismanagement.
Dipon asserted that the scale of misconduct during this brief period even surpassed that of former BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon’s 15-year tenure. “What did not happen in Papon’s 15 years occurred in just six months under the last committee. I can say with certainty that the level of irregularities over the past five to six months is equivalent to nearly fifteen years of mismanagement,” he said.
He went on to reveal, “Examining internal documents, accounts, and official papers has left us astonished. Many of the findings are beyond imagination.”
Dipon also emphasised that the ongoing investigation is being conducted with complete transparency and impartiality. Officials from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Ministry of Law are directly involved, and external agencies have been brought in to ensure fairness and prevent any form of bias.
The scandal gained public attention last April when the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a high-profile raid at the BCB offices, sending shockwaves through the national cricketing community. Experts commented, “It is deeply shameful that individuals have compromised the integrity of cricket in the name of development.”
The responsibility now falls on the newly appointed BCB president, Aminul Islam Bulbul, who faces the formidable task of identifying and addressing corrupt practices within his own organisation. Cricket enthusiasts across the nation are closely monitoring his actions, which are crucial for restoring both transparency and public confidence in Bangladeshi cricket.
