Peter Moores Set to Take Over as Rockets Head Coach

Peter Moores is the favourite to become the new men’s head coach at Trent Rockets in the Hundred, following Andy Flower’s departure to take up a new role with London Spirit. Adam Voges is also in discussions to join the Rockets as Moores’ assistant.

Flower, who had been with the Rockets since the competition’s inaugural season, left the role after being offered a lucrative position with London Spirit. While former candidates Andrew Flintoff and Stephen Fleming were considered for the job, it is now confirmed that Moores is the leading contender to take charge in 2026, in addition to his duties as head coach of Nottinghamshire.

The Rockets are now under new ownership, after private equity firms Cain and Ares bought a 49% stake in the franchise earlier this year. The franchise will be jointly run with Nottinghamshire, who retain operational control as majority shareholders. This comes as Chris Read was recently appointed as the women’s head coach of the Rockets.

Moores has spent the past season working as one of Flower’s assistants, with the Rockets finishing as losing finalists in the 2025 edition of the Hundred. He recently signed a three-year contract extension with Nottinghamshire. Moores brings a wealth of experience in franchise cricket, having previously coached Melbourne Stars and Karachi Kings, and played a key role in Nottinghamshire’s County Championship triumph last season.

Voges, although new to the Hundred, has made a name for himself as a successful coach with Western Australia and Perth Scorchers. He has a longstanding connection with Nottinghamshire, having played as an overseas player for the club between 2008 and 2012. Voges has also served as an assistant coach for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.

As it stands, three men’s coaches for the Hundred’s 2026 season have already been confirmed: Andy Flower (London Spirit), Mike Hussey (Welsh Fire), and Shane Bond (Birmingham Phoenix). Daniel Vettori is also set to join the newly rebranded Sunrisers Leeds.

Meanwhile, Justin Langer is emerging as a possible candidate to take charge at Manchester Originals (soon to become Super Giants) after leaving London Spirit. Tom Moody will take on a global director of cricket role for the franchise, while Simon Katich will remain as the men’s head coach for Originals.

Southern Brave are yet to appoint a successor to Adi Birrell, with Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani believed to be in the running. Defending champions Oval Invincibles (set to become MI London) are also searching for a new men’s coach after Tom Moody’s departure.

Finally, Surrey’s deal with Reliance Industries to co-own the Invincibles franchise is the only outstanding paperwork in the Hundred’s privatisation process. Although not yet officially completed, an announcement is expected soon.
