Somerset have confirmed that South African all-rounder Migael Pretorius will return to the club as one of their overseas players for the 2026 season. He will be available to play across all formats throughout the year.
Pretorius, who first joined Somerset in 2024, has made an immediate impact. In his first season, he scored five fifties and took 58 wickets in 21 appearances. Last year, he featured prominently in both the County Championship and the T20 Blast, playing a key role in Somerset’s victory on Blast Finals Day, as the club claimed the title for the second time in three years.
Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry, expressed his enthusiasm about Pretorius’ return: “From the moment he arrived in 2024, Migael wholeheartedly embraced the club’s culture. He has proven time and again that he can make a difference with both bat and ball, as well as in the field. He will bring valuable experience and depth to our squad once again.”
At 30, Pretorius has been included in various South African squads but is still awaiting his first international cap. To date, he has taken 230 first-class wickets at an average of 27.50, alongside 61 wickets in List A cricket and 100 in T20s.
Reflecting on his time with Somerset, Pretorius said, “I’ve really enjoyed playing for Somerset over the past two years. From day one, I was made to feel at home, and it’s been a special place to play. Being part of the team that won the Blast was an incredible experience, and I hope we can not only replicate but surpass that success in 2026.”
