Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has set a new benchmark for spinners in One Day Internationals after a sensational performance in the series against the West Indies.
Rishad took 12 wickets in the three-match series, making him the highest wicket-taker among spinners in any three-match bilateral ODI series. In achieving the feat, he surpassed Australia’s Adam Zampa and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who both took 11 wickets in similar series. Rashid reached that mark against Bangladesh in Afghanistan’s most recent ODI series.
Across all bowlers, Rishad now ranks third in the world. The record for most wickets in a three-match ODI series belongs to Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who claimed 13 wickets against India in 2015, while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza also sits alongside Rishad with 12 wickets.
Rishad’s all-round contributions were equally remarkable. He scored 26 not out off 13 balls in the first ODI and an explosive 39 not out from 14 balls in the second, earning him the Player of the Series award.
Bangladesh will next face the West Indies in a three-match T20 series in Chattogram on 27, 29 and 31 October.
