The Bangladesh women’s national cricket team commenced their campaign in the Women’s T20I Tri-Series with an eight-wicket defeat against hosts Scotland at The Grange Club in Edinburgh on Friday.
First Innings: Bangladesh Batting Performance
After being put into bat, Nigar Sultana Joty’s side posted a total of 133 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The captain anchored the innings single-handedly, remaining unbeaten on 46 runs off 39 deliveries, an effort that featured five boundaries and one six.
Contributions from the middle order, including a pair of 22-run scores from Sobhana Mostary and Shorna Akter, helped rebuild the innings after early top-order breakthroughs. For Scotland, the bowling attack maintained a disciplined line, with skipper Kathryn Bryce, Gabriella Fontenla, Kirstie Gordon, and Abtaha Maqsood picking up one wicket apiece to restrict Bangladesh’s scoring rate.
Second Innings: Scotland’s Efficient Run Chase
| Team | Score | Overs Batted | Primary Contributors |
| Bangladesh Women | 133/5 | 20.0 | Nigar Sultana Joty 46* (39), Sobhana Mostary 22 (22) |
| Scotland Women | 134/2 | 15.4 | Kathryn Bryce 54* (32), Katherine Fraser 28 (30) |
The hosts chased down the target of 134 runs with significant ease, concluding the match in just 15.4 overs whilst losing only two wickets. Scotland’s top order established a stable foundation, courtesy of aggressive early cameos from opening bat Darcey Carter, who scored 23 off 17 balls, and Katherine Fraser, who added 28 runs from 30 deliveries.
Following the dismissal of the openers, captain Kathryn Bryce executed a decisive, unbeaten half-century, scoring 54 runs from 32 balls, inclusive of four boundaries and three sixes. She was ably supported by her sister, Sarah Bryce, who remained not out on 23 runs from 15 deliveries to guide their side past the finishing line. Shorna Akter and Ritu Moni were the only wicket-takers for Bangladesh, claiming one wicket each.
Tournament Standings and Future Outlook
This victory marks Scotland’s second consecutive triumph in the tournament, following their opening-day win over the Netherlands on Thursday. The host nation currently leads the tri-series standings with a perfect record.
Despite the initial setback, Bangladesh retain an opportunity to correct their course in the tournament. The team is scheduled to face Scotland again next Tuesday at the same venue, offering an immediate chance to adjust their combinations. This three-nation tournament serves as a crucial competitive preparation window for the participating squads ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to commence on 12 June.
