At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, the academy premises witness a constant flow of cricketers. In an era dominated by social media content, particularly short-form videos, almost every moment at the venue attracts attention. Yet, some players continue to operate away from the spotlight. One such cricketer is Amit Hasan, who has quietly built his career without widespread recognition.
For a long time, Amit Hasan remained a relatively unfamiliar figure despite frequent appearances at Mirpur. While a few might have recognised him in passing, he largely stayed unnoticed. That anonymity has now changed. His most significant identification at present is as a member of Bangladesh’s squad for the first Test against Pakistan, marking his entry into international cricket.
Amit’s journey to this stage has been gradual and shaped by persistence. Originally from Narayanganj, he transitioned to representing Sylhet Division in the National Cricket League (NCL) under the guidance of Rajin Saleh. In a cricketing landscape increasingly influenced by the popularity of Twenty20 competitions, performances in longer formats such as the NCL and Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) often receive limited attention. Consequently, players like Amit have had fewer opportunities to gain public recognition despite consistent performances.
Although he has not been widely regarded as a prominent figure in domestic red-ball cricket, Amit has established himself as a reliable performer. His first-class record reflects both consistency and productivity, which ultimately led to his selection for the national Test side.

Amit made his first-class debut in the National Cricket League in 2019. Approximately seven years later, he has earned a place in the national Test squad. Despite the significance of the achievement, his reaction remained measured. He stated, “Like every cricketer, it was my dream to play for the national team. I feel very good after receiving the call.”
Since being informed of his selection by chief selector Habibul Bashar, Amit has received numerous congratulatory messages from friends and acquaintances. However, the attention has not altered his composed approach.
His domestic career includes notable milestones. He is one of only two cricketers in the past decade to have scored more than 700 runs in a single NCL season. Among his two double centuries, one instance also included a century in the other innings of the same match. Recently, in the opening round of the BCL, he played a match-winning innings of 162 runs for East Zone.
Despite these achievements, Amit did not express frustration over the timing of his national call-up. Instead, he acknowledged that he had remained within the selectors’ consideration, having been part of the High Performance (HP) programme and the ‘A’ team. Over the past three to four years, he has regularly participated in training camps, which contributed to his development.
Now aged 24, Amit believes his experience in first-class cricket will assist him at the international level. He remarked that he aims to utilise the experience gained over an extended period in red-ball cricket for the national side.
During his early years, he followed Rahul Dravid’s batting closely. However, his favourite batsman is Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim, with whom he has shared dressing rooms in both the NCL (Sylhet Division) and BCL (East Zone). Like Mushfiqur, Amit also keeps wickets and appreciates his discipline and lifestyle.
Having progressed through sustained effort and patience, Amit Hasan now enters the international stage. Reflecting on his journey, he expressed a simple expectation: “There will be ups and downs in life. I hope people will stand by me during my difficult times.”
