Today’s Final: The Clash Between Chattogram and Rajshahi

Tickets for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) final have been in high demand for days, reflecting the anticipation surrounding the culmination of the tournament. Today, at Mirpur, the much-coveted trophy will be unveiled just two hours prior to the final clash. The trophy, valued at BDT 2.5 million, had arrived from Dubai mid-tournament, heightening excitement among players and fans alike.

While attention had briefly shifted to Bangladesh’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup, it was confirmed on Thursday that the national side will not be competing—a decision seen as a significant setback for the country’s cricketing aspirations. Nevertheless, domestic cricket enthusiasts now have the BPL final to look forward to.

At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Rajshahi Warriors, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, will take on Chattogram Royals under the captaincy of Sheikh Mehedi Hasan. Both teams are vying to lift the prestigious BPL trophy, marking the climax of a thrilling season.

Chattogram’s journey to the final has been remarkable. Just a day before the tournament began, the team’s owners had withdrawn, casting doubt over their participation. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) intervened, taking control of the team to ensure the tournament proceeded smoothly. From uncertainty to optimism, Chattogram has transformed, delivering consistent performances under the guidance of Team Director Habibul Bashar, Manager Nafis Iqbal, and Coach Mizanur Rahman. Speaking on the eve of the final, captain Mehedi Hasan said, “Having reached the final, why shouldn’t we dream of the trophy? Whoever plays the best cricket tomorrow, across all departments, deserves to win. Every player wants that victory—it’s in our hearts. Let’s see what happens.”

Historically, the league phase saw the two sides evenly matched, each winning one encounter against the other. Chattogram, however, gained an edge by winning the qualifier, giving them a psychological boost heading into the final. Both captains express mutual respect, while Rajshahi’s coach, Hannan Sarker, emphasises team cohesion. “Winning the toss doesn’t guarantee victory in Mirpur. We’ve shown that matches can be won even after losing the toss. If our team plays unitedly, we can become champions,” he noted.
