Women’s World Cup Final : South Africa to Field After Winning Toss

The women’s ODI cricket tournament will crown a new world champion today. For the first time in the history of the Women’s World Cup, the mega final is taking place without Australia or England. At DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the hosts India will face South Africa in the battle for the trophy.

The toss could not be held on time due to rain. After the rain stopped in Mumbai, India’s captain Harmanpreet lost the toss. South Africa, having won the toss, invited India to bat. The match will start at 5:30 PM Bangladesh time. If rain does not interfere again, the match will be a full 50-over game.

Both teams have made no changes to their playing XI for the final. An additional two hours have been allocated for the semi-finals and final. If the match starts before 5:30 PM Bangladesh time, overs will not be reduced. The latest start time for a minimum 20-over game is 9:38 PM. If play has not started by then, the match will be moved to the reserve day. If rain halts play today, the match will resume tomorrow from the same situation.

Both teams have overcome various challenges to reach the final. South Africa bounced back strongly after being bowled out for 69 and 97 runs in the group stage. India, despite losing to the top three teams (Australia, England, South Africa) in the group stage, showed their strength in the semi-finals. They caused an upset by defeating tournament giants Australia, while South Africa secured their place in the final by beating England.
