The BCB President has instructed that Director Nazmul must show cause.

In the wake of controversial comments concerning former national cricket captain Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director M. Nazmul Islam has been formally instructed to provide an explanation, or a “rejoinder,” by the BCB President, Aminul Islam Bulbul. The president clarified that this directive effectively amounts to a formal show-cause notice.

The announcement came following the ‘GNC School Cricket’ tournament jersey and trophy unveiling at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday evening. The event, organised by the BCB’s Regional Cricket Centre, saw Aminul Islam Bulbul in attendance as the chief guest. Speaking to the media after the ceremony, he revealed the board’s decision regarding Nazmul’s remarks.

Bulbul emphasised the need for responsible commentary by board members, particularly when it pertains to national team players. “The director made these comments through his personal Facebook profile. We have instructed him to submit a rejoinder. In my view, any statement about a national team captain must respect Tamim Iqbal’s performance and reputation. Ignoring this consideration makes such remarks inappropriate,” Bulbul stated.

When asked whether submitting a rejoinder can be considered equivalent to a show-cause notice, Bulbul confirmed, “Yes.” He further noted that the matter will be openly discussed at the next BCB board meeting, scheduled for 24 January. “Nazmul himself is a director. The issue will be thoroughly examined during the board meeting,” he added.

The BCB is currently navigating multiple pressures, including the decision not to send a team to the World Cup. In this tense environment, concerns have been raised that imprudent comments from board directors could spark additional controversies. On this point, Bulbul refrained from commenting, simply stating ‘no comments.’
