Tamim Iqbal Expresses Desire to Lead BCB

Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal has once again expressed his ambition to assume the presidency of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), signalling a renewed interest in cricket administration following his playing career.

Tamim had initially intended to contest the most recent BCB presidential election but ultimately withdrew, citing alleged governmental interference. His decision was supported by a significant faction of Dhaka-based club organisers, who also opted not to participate in the election. Despite stepping back at the time, Tamim has now confirmed his interest in the role during a recent podcast interview.

Although he had announced his retirement before the 2023 One Day International (ODI) World Cup, Tamim briefly returned to play a solitary ODI. However, he did not participate in the World Cup due to various complications. Since retiring from active competition, he has remained actively involved in club cricket, particularly in organisational and developmental capacities.

During the SamirSkien Podcast, Tamim was directly asked whether he intended to pursue the BCB presidency. He replied unequivocally: “If the opportunity arises, definitely.” When questioned about his suitability for the position, he responded, “I believe I am [qualified]. Certainly, I do.”

Explaining the rationale behind his administrative aspirations, Tamim emphasised the importance of intention and capability over mere experience. “My ability as an organiser, I believe, is evident to everyone in the cricketing circle. Experience and age matter, but above all, intention is key. Look at it this way: even the most experienced individuals have led BCB. They have been there for 20 years—has BCB performed exceptionally? For so long, they relied on seasoned individuals; perhaps now, they can trust someone like me, who is less experienced but highly motivated.”
