Sylhet’s Amit Hassan Hits Season’s First Double Hundred, Joins Elite Record List

The National Cricket League’s sixth round saw Sylhet Division’s Amit Hassan hit the season’s first double century, a display of both skill and patience. Facing the Rajshahi attack, Amit amassed 213 runs before falling to Asaduzzaman Payel’s delivery. At 24, this innings marked his personal best in first-class cricket.

Starting the third day unbeaten on 172 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Amit reached the 200-run mark in commanding fashion, facing 221 balls with 28 boundaries and a six. This innings mirrored his score of 213 from the previous season against Khulna, highlighting his consistency in domestic cricket.

Amit’s innings also included a staggering 342-run fourth-wicket stand with Asadullah Al Galib, setting the second-highest fourth-wicket partnership in Bangladesh’s first-class history. The only higher partnership was 348 runs for the same wicket by Sylhet’s Alok Kapali and Rajin Saleh against Dhaka in the 2014-15 NCL season.

Since 2022, when the NCL adopted the Duke ball, only six double centuries have been recorded in four seasons, with Amit alone scoring two of them, including this innings. Last season, he was the sole double centurion, accumulating 785 runs across the tournament.

Amit’s dismissal left Galib unbeaten on 160, suggesting the possibility of another double century in the same innings. Sylhet’s performance demonstrates the team’s emerging talent and dominance, with Amit firmly establishing himself as one of Bangladesh’s premier young batsmen.
