Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar has confirmed his divorce from wife Eshani Johar, just days before what would have been their fourth wedding anniversary. Chahar had married Eshani on 9 March 2022 in Goa, when he was only 22 years old.
In an emotional post on Instagram, Chahar described the past 15 months as the most challenging period of his life. He revealed that the legal proceedings surrounding the separation had been long and taxing, teaching him lessons he had never anticipated.
Chahar wrote, “I entered marriage at a very young age, without fully understanding myself, my values, or what kind of life I wanted to build. Since then, I have faced experiences I could never have imagined. Over the past fifteen months, navigating the court processes has taught me patience, resilience, and the power of truth.”
He added, “Today, this chapter of my life has formally concluded. The legal process is complete, and the matter has been resolved, at a significant personal cost. I close this chapter not with anger or regret, but with clarity. Some relationships are not meant to last forever; they awaken us, teach us, and transform us.”
On the cricketing front, Chahar, who has represented India seven times in limited-overs cricket, is expected to play in the upcoming IPL 2026 season for Chennai Super Kings. He was acquired by the franchise in last year’s IPL auction for ₹5.2 crore.
Last season, he played only one match for Sunrisers Hyderabad, failing to take a wicket. Over his IPL career so far, Chahar has appeared in 79 matches and taken 75 wickets. He was also part of the Mumbai Indians squad that won back-to-back titles in 2019 and 2020.
The table below summarises his IPL career performance:
| Season | Team | Matches | Wickets | Best Bowling |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 | Mumbai Indians | 12 | 15 | 4/30 |
| 2020 | Mumbai Indians | 15 | 17 | 3/22 |
| 2025 | Sunrisers Hyderabad | 1 | 0 | 0/45 |
| Total | — | 79 | 75 | 5/24 |
Chahar’s announcement has sparked widespread reactions among fans and cricket enthusiasts across India. While his personal life undergoes a major transition, supporters remain hopeful that he will channel his experiences into resilience on the field. Analysts suggest that the emotional maturity gained through this challenging period could enhance his focus and composure in high-pressure matches, especially in the forthcoming IPL season.
With the IPL 2026 just around the corner, all eyes will be on Chahar as he aims to regain form and continue contributing to Chennai Super Kings’ campaign. His journey underscores not only the trials of young athletes balancing personal and professional life but also the strength required to emerge from such difficult phases with dignity and insight.
