PSL 2026 Match Venues Moved Due to Regional Instability

Bangladesh’s six cricketers, including pace ace Mustafizur Rahman, are set to participate in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL), but escalating geopolitical tensions have prompted significant changes to the tournament’s venues and arrangements. Ongoing conflicts in the Middle East—involving the US and Israel, Iran, and the Pakistan–Afghanistan border—have had ripple effects on international sporting events, including the PSL, forcing organisers to revise their original plans.

The eleventh edition of the PSL is scheduled from 26 March to 3 May 2026, with eight teams initially set to compete across six venues in Pakistan. A total of 44 matches were planned over 39 days, designed to give fans across the country the opportunity to watch live cricket. However, security concerns, rising fuel and energy costs, and logistical challenges have led the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to consolidate all fixtures to Lahore and Karachi, with games played behind closed doors, barring spectator attendance.

Originally, matches were to be held in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi, aiming to expand regional access and fan engagement. The current crisis, coupled with rising essential goods prices and constrained transport and energy resources, made a streamlined approach necessary. The opening ceremony, scheduled for 26 March, has also been cancelled to maintain safety and operational efficiency.

PCB President Mohsin Naqvi explained: “Up to 30,000 spectators could attend daily matches. Controlling such large crowds amid the ongoing crisis is not feasible. Therefore, we have decided to hold matches without spectators until the situation stabilises. It is a difficult decision, but unavoidable under current circumstances.”

Despite the venue changes, the match schedule remains unchanged. The PSL will start with 14 matches in Lahore from 26 March to 6 April, followed by 15 matches in Karachi. From 21 April, the league returns to Lahore, with the qualifier round moved from Rawalpindi to Lahore and Karachi on 28 April. The final is slated for 3 May at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

The opening fixture will see Lahore Qalandars, featuring Mustafizur Rahman and Parvez Imon, face off against Hyderabad Kingsmen, promising an exciting start despite logistical constraints.
