In the first One-Day International (ODI) in Faisalabad, Pakistan’s impressive bowling performance saw them bowl out South Africa for just 263 runs. From the outset, the hosts maintained control of the match with steady batting. In the end, Pakistan secured a two-wicket victory with two balls to spare, led by Shaheen Afridi’s team.
The foundation for Pakistan’s win was laid by a blistering 87-run opening partnership between Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub, who provided a strong start in just 15 overs. This aggressive beginning set the tone for the rest of the innings, as Pakistan maintained control throughout.
Despite some resistance from South Africa’s spinners in the middle overs, Mohammad Rizwan (55) and Salman Agha (53) kept the score ticking with cautious batting, ensuring that the team remained in a safe position. Although the final overs were slightly tense, Mohammad Nawaz hit a six to seal the victory for Pakistan.
With seven balls remaining, Pakistan needed 10 runs. A six from Nawaz, followed by a leg bye from Naseem Shah, helped the team finish the chase successfully.
Earlier, in South Africa’s innings, debutant Luwan-Dre Pretorius and Quinton de Kock gave the visitors a solid start, taking the score to 98 runs by the 16th over. Although De Kock reached fifty, he was dismissed by Naseem Shah. After that, Abrar Ahmed made a significant impact, taking two wickets in one over and breaking South Africa’s batting momentum. In the final stages, Corbin Bosch fought back, but he couldn’t guide his team to victory.
