Bangladesh levelled the three-match T20I series 1–1 after a composed, match-defining half-century from captain Liton Das secured a four-wicket victory with two balls to spare. When Liton raised his bat after reaching his fifty, the expression on his face spoke more of calm assurance than celebration—an acknowledgement that his innings had placed Bangladesh firmly in control of a must-win contest.
Having lost the opening match in Chattogram, Bangladesh entered the second fixture under considerable pressure. Ireland, batting first after winning the toss, threatened to seize the momentum early. Paul Stirling blasted 29 off only 14 deliveries, forming a rapid 57-run opening stand inside 28 balls. His dismissal, courtesy of Tanzim Hasan, offered Bangladesh much-needed relief.
Tim Tector continued Ireland’s aggressive intent, striking two impressive sixes on his way to 38 off 25 balls. However, his wicket—claimed by Mehidy Hasan—proved the turning point. From that moment onwards, Ireland’s scoring rate slowed dramatically. Mehidy bowled a highly disciplined spell, finishing with 3 for 25 from four overs and spearheading Bangladesh’s effort to regain control.
Despite the slowdown, Lorcan Tucker’s well-crafted 41 from 32 deliveries lifted Ireland to a competitive 170 for 6, a total that has historically troubled Bangladesh when chasing. In fact, Bangladesh had won only three of their previous fifteen run chases above 150 in the past two years.
Bangladesh began their reply with greater composure than in the first match. Although Tanzid Hasan departed early for 7, Parvez Hossain played a lively knock of 43 off 28 balls, providing essential early impetus. Once he fell, the responsibility shifted to Liton, who anchored the innings with a mature 57 from 37 deliveries. His 52-run partnership with Saif Hassan steadied the chase and brought Bangladesh to the brink of victory.
A brief wobble saw Bangladesh lose three quick wickets, but Mehidy Hasan struck the winning boundary in the final over. With the series now tied at 1–1, the decider promises to be a compelling contest.
