Jashasvi Joyswal, the young batting sensation from Mumbai, faced a medical scare yesterday when he was admitted to hospital following severe abdominal pain during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash against Rajasthan in Pune.
The 23-year-old, who has been in stellar form for Mumbai this season, was forced off the field after scoring just 15 runs off 16 balls. His discomfort was noticeable throughout his innings, but it intensified in the latter stages, prompting immediate medical attention. Joyswal was taken to Aditya Birla Hospital, where he was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. Both ultrasound and CT scans were conducted to rule out serious complications, and he is currently receiving necessary treatment. Doctors have advised him to take complete rest for the time being.
Despite Joyswal’s absence, Mumbai clinched a nail-biting three-wicket victory. The team’s performance was bolstered by Ajinka Rahan’s unbeaten 72 and Sarfaraz Khan’s blistering 73 off just 22 balls, which included seven sixes and four boundaries. Joyswal’s departure brought an end to a promising 41-run opening partnership, but the team managed to secure a thrilling win regardless.
The young left-handed batter had previously shown great promise in the tournament, amassing 145 runs in three matches, with an impressive strike rate of 168.6. His sudden hospitalisation now casts doubt over his participation in upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches.
Internationally, Joyswal has yet to make a mark in India’s T20 side, missing the recent series against South Africa. With the New Zealand series scheduled in January, any prolonged absence may impact his chances of representing India at the T20 World Cup next February. Fans are hopeful that he will recover swiftly, allowing him to return to domestic cricket and eventually shine on the international stage.
For now, the focus is firmly on ensuring Joyswal’s health and recovery, with his explosive batting potential temporarily on hold. Mumbai’s camp remains supportive, expressing confidence that he will bounce back stronger after this unexpected setback.
