Three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have moved decisively to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026 season. In a mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi, the franchise secured a total of 13 players, making high-profile signings that have captured the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
The most notable acquisition was Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, bought for a staggering ₹25 crore. He is joined by Sri Lanka’s leg-spinner Mathisha Pathirana at ₹18 crore and Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, acquired for just over ₹9 crore. These signings highlight KKR’s intent to create a balanced side capable of competing at the highest level.
Alongside Green, Pathirana, and Mustafizur, players like Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, and Rachin Ravindra are expected to play pivotal roles in the team’s campaign. Following the auction, Indian media outlets have speculated on KKR’s probable playing XI, prominently featuring Mustafizur as a key component of the bowling attack.
For the upcoming IPL season, the wicketkeeping duties are likely to be shared between Finn Allen and Tim Seifert, adding flexibility to the side. Sunil Narine, a three-time IPL Most Valuable Player (MVP), remains central to KKR’s strategy. His ability to take over 190 wickets in the IPL alongside valuable contributions with the bat makes him a dual threat for opponents.
If Ajinkya Rahane continues as captain, he is expected to bat at number three. The probable batting order would see Cameron Green at four, Rinku Singh at five, and Ramnadeep Singh at six.
The bowling attack will be spearheaded by Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora, supported by Mustafizur and Pathirana. Varun Chakravarthy will lead the spin department, while backup pacers include Akash Deep, Umran Malik, and Kartik Tyagi. Experienced batsmen Ankhrish Raghuwanshi, Monish Pandey, and Rahul Tripathi are part of the squad to provide depth in the batting line-up.
