Four Directors Resign Amid BCB Turmoil

A wave of unexpected resignations has swept through the Bangladesh Cricket Board, with four directors stepping down in rapid succession during yesterday’s board meeting. The fourth meeting of the current board term, held on Saturday, began in the early afternoon and concluded around 9:00 pm.

The first resignation was submitted by Fayazur Rahman Mitu, Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee and Senior Vice-Chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis. Within two hours, Shahnian Tanim, Meherab Alam, and Manjurul Alam followed suit, prompting speculation about the reasons behind this sudden exodus.

One of the resigning directors stated that the decision had been made previously, citing dissatisfaction with the board’s work as the primary motivation.

The resignations come just before the submission of the investigative committee’s report on the most recent BCB elections, expected today, Sunday, at the National Sports Council. Reports indicate that further resignations are possible, with three directors already confirming their decisions via email by 10:00 pm on Saturday.

Board director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu stressed the importance of allowing the investigative committee to carry out its work. “If there were instability, would I still be here? An investigative committee has been formed, and it must be allowed to perform its duties. Everyone is fulfilling their responsibilities, and we serve with dedication. Concerns about the future should not interfere with the present work,” he said.

Rubaba Daula, BCB’s first female director, highlighted the productivity of the nine-hour-long meeting. “We covered several agendas and examined what actions are possible. Many decisions were made today. Committee chairs have been appointed, and work is proceeding. Our focus remains on responsibility and proper execution. Whatever is destined to happen will happen, but our priority is to complete the tasks correctly,” she said.

The resignations represent a pivotal moment for the Bangladesh Cricket Board, with the outcome of the investigative committee’s report likely to shape the board’s future course.
