Mustafizur Rahman continues his sensational wicket-taking form in the ongoing International T20 League in the United Arab Emirates. After claiming wickets in each of his first six matches, the left-arm pacer turned the seventh match on its head, taking three wickets in just four deliveries to inspire Dubai Capitals to a thrilling victory.
At the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Gulf Giants were bowled out for 156, and Mustafizur’s team chased down the target with four balls and six wickets to spare. His remarkable spell not only swung the momentum but also earned him the “Man of the Match” award for his match-turning performance.
After winning the toss, Dubai Capitals chose to field. Captain Mohammad Nabi handed the ball to Mustafizur in the second over. Despite a challenging start with the new ball, the former Kolkata Knight Riders recruit in the IPL, bought for INR 9.2 crore, conceded 13 runs.
Nabi returned the ball to Mustafizur in the 14th over, with Gulf Giants at 110 for three. On the very first ball, James Vince struck a boundary, followed by a wide. Mustafizur then dismissed Vince with an off-cutter, luring the batsman into a misjudged shot that flew to the wicketkeeper. Vince had scored 36 from 34 balls.
The following delivery saw Afghan batsman Azmatullah Omarzai take a single, putting Kyle Myers on strike. Mustafizur then trapped Myers, playing defensively, with another off-cutter that struck the inside edge and crashed into the stumps. Myers had scored 43 from 26 balls.
Mustafizur’s third wicket in the over was a masterful leg-stump delivery that beat right-hander Shaun Dickson, hitting the outside edge and knocking over the bails. The next ball prompted an LBW appeal against Mark Adair, but it was turned down, denying him a hat-trick. By the end of the over, Gulf Giants were 116/6.
Returning to bowl in the 18th over, Mustafizur conceded 11 runs, and despite a dropped catch by Nabi off the first ball, he continued to apply pressure. Remarkably, the next three wickets fell via run-outs on the third, fourth, and fifth deliveries of the over, but none were credited to Mustafizur.
Finishing with figures of 3.5-0-34-3, the “Cutter Master” demonstrated his lethal control over the off-cutter. With this performance, Mustafizur now has 14 wickets in seven matches, cementing his status as one of the tournament’s leading bowlers.
