The upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season promises to shine a spotlight on emerging talent, with several young players expected to make a significant impact. Among these, five rising stars have already captured the attention of selectors, analysts, and fans alike, owing to their performances in domestic and Under-19 international cricket.
Abdullah Fazal (Rawalpindi) – Left-Handed Opener
At 23, Abdullah Fazal is making his PSL debut. Though relatively inexperienced, his recent domestic performances have been impressive. He has played eight recognised T20 matches and amassed 420 runs in the last two National T20 Leagues at a strike rate of nearly 160.
On 17 March, Fazal starred for Karachi Blues in the semi-final against Sialkot, scoring 88 runs off 41 balls. Across four matches in the tournament, he accumulated 189 runs. In first-class cricket, he averages 41 across 25 matches. Notably, in the 2025–26 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final, Fazal played pivotal innings of 88 and 114 runs, guiding his team to the championship.
Farhan Yusuf (Peshawar Zalmi) – Middle-Order Batsman
Farhan led Pakistan in this year’s Under-19 World Cup and subsequently impressed in the ongoing National T20 Cup for Lahore Whites. Although unsold in the PSL draft, Peshawar Zalmi recruited him directly after observing his performances. In four matches, he scored 143 runs at a strike rate of 188.15, demonstrating maturity and consistency in the middle order.
Ubaid Shah (Lahore Qalandars) – Fast Bowler
Ubaid Shah, the younger brother of Nasim Shah, is set to play his third PSL season. The 20-year-old pace bowler has taken 12 wickets in 11 PSL matches, all coming during last season for Multan Sultans. His base price was PKR 6 million, but Lahore Qalandars secured him for PKR 27 million. In T20 cricket, he has claimed 29 wickets in 28 matches at an economy rate of 9.24, while in first-class cricket he boasts 72 wickets in 16 matches, including two five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match.
Ali Raja (Peshawar Zalmi) – Right-Arm Paceman
Eighteen-year-old Ali Raja has been retained by Peshawar Zalmi for PKR 19.6 million, signalling high expectations. In the 2025 season, he took 12 wickets in nine matches. At the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, Raja picked up 13 wickets in five matches, ranking fourth in the tournament, having previously taken nine wickets in the 2024 edition. This PSL season could be a career-defining opportunity for him.
Samir Minhaj (Islamabad United) – Batsman
Samir Minhaj has long been regarded as a promising prospect in Pakistan cricket. At the 2025 Under-19 Asia Cup, he scored 471 runs in five matches at an average of 157 and a strike rate of 117.45, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. His 172-run innings off 113 balls against India in the final remains particularly memorable. Minhaj was also the highest run-scorer (197 runs) for Pakistan in the most recent Under-19 World Cup, including the fastest youth ODI century against Zimbabwe, achieved in just 42 balls. Despite having only two domestic T20 matches to his name, Minhaj’s PSL debut offers him a global stage to establish his reputation.
