With the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season fast approaching, all five participating franchises have intensified their preparations. Dhaka Capitals are no exception; in fact, the franchise has made its ambitions abundantly clear by taking an assertive approach to squad-building. Having already secured the signatures of two top-tier Bangladeshi cricketers, the team has now captured further attention by signing Pakistan’s powerful top-order batsman, Usman.
Usman delivered a standout campaign last season for the Chittagong Kings. His performances were both dynamic and consistent, highlighted by a blistering century that turned heads across the tournament. Across eight matches, he amassed 285 runs at an impressive strike rate of 167, demonstrating both reliability and destructive ability. His arrival at Dhaka Capitals is widely expected to provide much-needed firepower to the team’s batting order, adding depth and versatility ahead of a demanding tournament.
Dhaka Capitals have already formalised deals with Taskin Ahmed and Saif Hassan. Taskin shone for Duronto Rajshahi last season, while Saif proved to be a dependable figure for the Rangpur Riders. Under current BPL regulations, each team may sign a maximum of two local players from the A or B categories prior to the auction, a rule which Dhaka have taken full advantage of.
This year’s BPL auction is scheduled for 21 November, and teams are moving swiftly to secure their preferred options. Ahead of the auction, franchises are permitted to sign between one and two overseas players directly. The auction itself will be conducted in two phases—first for local players and then for overseas cricketers. Every franchise must select at least 13 local players from the auction, with the option to register up to 16. Additionally, a maximum of two players may be signed directly outside the auction process.
