Daren Sammy disappointed over fans chanting ‘Bogus-Bogus’ at players

Whether in Mirpur, Chattogram, or Sylhet — in recent times, cricketers have often been subjected to boos and jeers from the stands. Usually, fans express such reactions due to poor on-field performances. This trend has been seen across both international and domestic cricket. Even during the series against the West Indies, local fans were heard chanting “fake-fake” at Bangladeshi players — something that left West Indies head coach Daren Sammy disappointed.

All three T20 matches of the series were held at the Birshreshtha Flight Lt. Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram, where the stands were packed with spectators every day. However, following Bangladesh’s whitewash defeat, the frustration of the fans was evident in their boos and chants.

Before the series, former West Indies captain Sammy had praised Bangladeshi supporters, saying, “Bangladesh fans are amazing. Whenever I come here, I’m always impressed by their passion. Even though I’m not playing anymore, they always show love and support.”

Later, expressing displeasure over the fans’ behavior toward their own players, Sammy said, “I didn’t like the way they treated their players. They were shouting things like ‘fake-fake.’ I even asked what that meant. As supporters, you should stand by your players — every one of them wants to perform well for the team.”
