The statement read:
“The BPL Governing Council has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a competitive and entertaining 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, scheduled to begin on 26 December 2025 in Sylhet. Preparations are progressing as planned, with a primary focus on ensuring a safe and well-organised environment for players, match officials, fans, and all stakeholders involved in the tournament. The overall readiness of all participants is also being carefully monitored.”
Further clarifying the decision, the BCB added:
“In alignment with the Government of Bangladesh’s current directives regarding public gatherings, and in order to prioritise safety, the BPL Governing Council has decided that no large-scale events or opening ceremonies will be held.”
BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul commented on the situation, stating:
“We may not hold the opening ceremony this year. Considering the country’s overall situation and safety concerns, our priority is to conduct the cricket matches effectively. We are focusing all our attention on ensuring the tournament runs smoothly, and cricket itself remains our primary concern at this time.”
Despite the cancellation of the fanfare, the 12th edition of the BPL promises a full schedule of competitive and exciting matches. Fans can still look forward to high-quality cricket action as the top domestic and international players take to the field.
