BCB Takes Firm Stand on Jahanara Issue: Bulbul Declares ‘Zero Tolerance’

Former captain of the Bangladesh women’s national cricket team, Jahanara Alam, has recently accused former team official Manjurul Islam of sexual harassment. Manjurul, who is currently serving as a cricket development officer in China, allegedly behaved inappropriately and disrespectfully towards several female cricketers in the past.

Although the incident dates back several years, Jahanara had submitted a written complaint to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) at the time. The BCB President has stated that the matter was “likely resolved” in 2021. However, with the issue resurfacing in public discussion, the board has decided to reopen the case for further scrutiny.

In response, the BCB has formed a three-member investigation committee to look into the allegations. The board has assured that anyone found guilty after the inquiry will face strict disciplinary action.

At a press briefing, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul said, “Our policy regarding any form of sexual harassment or indecent behaviour is very clear — zero tolerance.” He further added, “We want the truth to come out through a fair investigation, and those responsible must be held fully accountable.”
