Cricketers of Dhaka Capitals are set to receive their overdue salaries by 15 April, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially confirmed, ending weeks of uncertainty following the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) two months ago. While players from other franchises have already been paid, Capitals’ cricketers have been awaiting their full remuneration.
BCB Director Iftikhar Rahman Mithu, also the BPL member secretary, provided an update to the media: “Some payments were made prior to Eid, but players were informed that the full amount would be settled later. So far, roughly BDT 1 crore has been paid. According to my calculations, the remaining dues stand at BDT 3.7 crore.”
Under BPL regulations, franchises are required to settle player payments within 45 days of the tournament’s conclusion. However, this deadline has now passed by over two months. Mithu emphasised that the remaining funds are secured through a BDT 5 crore bank guarantee, ensuring the payment will reach players’ accounts safely. “Cricketers will receive the remaining payment by 15 April,” he affirmed.
Earlier this year, other franchises had already cleared their pending payments. In February, Noakhali Express and Sylhet Titans settled their dues directly from funds deposited with the BCB. Similarly, prize money for the champion Rajshahi Warriors and runner-up Chattogram Royals was disbursed via the board.
The Chattogram Royals, as runners-up, received 40% of their prize money, totalling BDT 1.75 crore, while the Rajshahi Warriors collected BDT 2.75 crore as champions. Historically, franchises have also received dividends from the BCB’s earnings from prior BPL seasons, though details regarding the current season’s profit-sharing remain unclear.
The BCB’s proactive intervention highlights its growing focus on financial transparency and player welfare in domestic cricket. These delays, primarily caused by administrative bottlenecks and franchise cash-flow issues, have been recurring, prompting the board to enforce strict deadlines and utilise bank guarantees to safeguard players’ financial rights.
