Chattogram Joins BCB Coaching Drive

In a bid to strengthen cricket from the ground up, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially launched its Coaching Education Programme in Chattogram. This comes after the initial course in Sylhet received widespread acclaim, highlighting the board’s determination to cultivate skilled coaches nationwide.

Held at the Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, the three-day Level-A programme has brought together 32 coaches from Chattogram and nearby regions. BCB Director Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury formally opened the course, emphasising the pivotal role of coaches in shaping young cricketers’ futures.

Chowdhury underlined the importance of education in cricket, saying, “A strong coaching network is the foundation of a successful cricketing nation. When coaches are trained professionally, players benefit, and the sport flourishes.”

Led by senior BCB coaches Wahidul Gani, Golam Faruq Suru, Imdad Imdu, and Nasiruddin Sojib, the sessions aim to improve participant knowledge in several key areas, including age-group player development, tactical decision-making, technical instruction, match preparation, and on-field management. Physical training is handled by the experienced trainer Cesar, who ensures that the coaches themselves are fit and equipped to manage the physical demands of modern cricket.

Former national captain Habibul Bashar, now Head of Operations for Game Development, also praised the initiative. “Coaching is not just about playing cricket; it’s about understanding it deeply and being able to pass that knowledge on. These coaches are crucial in building a sustainable cricketing ecosystem in Bangladesh.”

The Chattogram programme is the second stage in a long-term plan that will reach all divisions of the country. By empowering local coaches, the BCB seeks to ensure a steady pipeline of talent that can progress to the national level.

Following the Sylhet programme’s success, expectations are high in Chattogram. Participants are eager to learn new methods and techniques that can be applied in their academies, aiming to nurture future stars of Bangladeshi cricket. The BCB’s initiative represents a clear commitment to grassroots development, a crucial step in maintaining the country’s growing presence on the international stage.

As the programme unfolds, the BCB hopes to create a network of highly qualified coaches, capable of fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism in cricket from the grassroots level up to international representation.
