In a decisive result that underscores the strength of his leadership, Ajinkya Naik has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), marking the beginning of his second consecutive term. His panel, the widely recognised Pawar-Shelar Group, captured 12 of the 16 available positions in the elections, asserting an overwhelming mandate over Mumbai’s cricket governance.
“I consider this victory a tribute to all Maidan clubs, secretaries, and cricketers, male and female alike. It is a win for Mumbai cricket in its entirety,” Naik said after Wednesday’s results were declared.
The re-election was strongly supported by key political and cricketing figures, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Sharad Pawar, a stalwart in Indian cricket administration. Naik also acknowledged the contributions of Minister Ashish Shelar, citing their support as crucial to his team’s electoral triumph.
Other office-bearers include Unmesh Khanvilkar as Secretary, Jitendra Awhad as Vice-President, Nilesh Bhosle as Joint Secretary, and Arman Mallick as Treasurer. Meanwhile, the MCA Apex Council welcomed nine new members: Sandeep Vichare, Suraj Samat, Vighnesh Kadam, Milind Narvekar, Bhushan Patil, Nadim Memon, Vikas Repale, Pramod Yadav, and Neil Savant.
Cricket analysts have suggested that Naik’s continued leadership will help drive consistent policies and improve governance in Mumbai cricket. Key priorities are expected to include youth development, modernisation of training facilities, and the promotion of transparency and accountability.
With a record of effective administration, Naik is now well-positioned to oversee a period of growth and professionalisation in Mumbai cricket. The overwhelming electoral support reflects widespread confidence in his vision and strategy for India’s cricketing powerhouse.
