The Bangladesh Cricket Conference held at Dhaka’s Hotel Sonargaon on 9–10 November 2025 was intended as a dual celebration: the growth of cricket nationwide and a quarter-century since Bangladesh attained Test status. While the event achieved many of its objectives, its final day was overshadowed by a mismanagement controversy that left several journalists without entry to the closing ceremony.
Over two days, the conference attracted an array of notable figures: cricket coaches, sports officials, women entrepreneurs, and councillors from across Bangladesh’s eight divisions and 64 districts. The agenda emphasised grassroots initiatives, coaching development, and strategies to expand the sport’s reach beyond traditional strongholds.
Nevertheless, the celebratory atmosphere soured when invited media representatives were barred from attending the final proceedings. Outraged journalists voiced concerns over transparency and inclusion, prompting a swift response from the BCB.
President Aminul Islam addressed the issue in a video statement, acknowledging the board’s shortcomings. “Despite personally inviting members of the media, many were not treated appropriately due to poor timing and organisational errors,” he admitted. “I sincerely apologise for this lapse and take full responsibility.”
Aminul further underlined the essential contribution of the media to cricket in Bangladesh, remarking that journalists have historically played a central role in promoting and supporting the game. He concluded by assuring that lessons would be learned and better coordination implemented in future events.
The BCB has now committed to refining its event management procedures to prevent recurrence. While the mishap generated headlines, the broader impact of the conference—enhancing grassroots cricket and commemorating 25 years of Bangladesh’s Test cricket journey—remains noteworthy.
