With the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fast approaching, participating teams are working tirelessly to finalise their squads. Franchise officials are negotiating with both domestic and overseas stars to strengthen their line-ups.
This year, the absence of the Sri Lanka Premier League (LPL) has opened the door for Sri Lankan talent to feature prominently in the BPL. Dunith Welalagge, a regular face in Sri Lanka’s limited-overs teams, has attracted interest from the Rajshahi Warriors. Positive discussions are reportedly underway between the franchise and the Lankan all-rounder. If everything goes smoothly, fans could see Welalagge making his BPL debut this season.
Meanwhile, Usman Khan, who impressed last season playing for the Chattogram Kings, might join a new franchise this time around. Sources indicate that Dhaka Capitals are keen on securing the Pakistani batter’s services, with negotiations reportedly moving in a positive direction. If confirmed, Usman could don the Dhaka jersey in the upcoming tournament.
This season also marks a major change in the player selection process. After several years, the league is returning to the traditional “auction” system rather than the draft. Teams will now have the opportunity to bid directly for their preferred players, adding both excitement and tactical intensity to squad-building.
To ensure international standards, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is reportedly considering bringing in experienced auction specialists from overseas. Due to a concurrent Bangladesh Test match, the BPL auction will commence at 3 PM on the scheduled day.
