Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah’s house came under gunfire in an attack earlier this week, resulting in the arrest of five suspects by the local police. According to sources, the incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning in Lower Dir city, Pakistan.
The attackers fired shots at the gate of Naseem’s residence, but fortunately, no one was injured in the attack. The 22-year-old pacer, who is currently in Rawalpindi with the Pakistan national team for the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka, was not at home at the time of the shooting.
Local police reported that the assailants targeted the main gate and windows of Naseem’s house in the Mayar area of Lower Dir. A parked vehicle was also damaged in the attack. A police spokesperson confirmed that five suspects have been arrested from the scene, and a case has been registered at the Mayar police station. Authorities are continuing their efforts to track down other individuals involved in the attack.
A police representative told Samaa TV, “Evidence has been gathered from the scene, and a case has been filed against the unidentified suspects. We are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to assist with the investigation.”
While initial investigations have ruled out a terrorist attack, the police suspect the incident may be related to a land dispute or local animosity. Fortunately, none of Naseem’s family members were injured in the incident.
Naseem is currently with the Pakistan team in Rawalpindi, where they are preparing for the first ODI against Sri Lanka today. The second and third ODIs will be played in Rawalpindi on November 13 and 15.
Following the Sri Lanka series, Naseem will be joining Pakistan’s squad for the Triangular Series, which will also feature Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. The tournament will take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
