The growing speculation about a potential trade deal involving Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja has caused quite a stir in recent days. According to several reports, Samson is set to join Chennai Super Kings, while Rajasthan Royals would receive Jadeja and an overseas player in return. While Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis have been mentioned as potential options, an Indian Express report suggested that Matheesha Pathirana could also be part of the deal.
Amid these trade talks, Pathirana deactivated his Instagram account, triggering a wave of curiosity among fans. Jadeja, too, followed suit, deactivating his Instagram in the wake of mounting rumours surrounding his potential move to Rajasthan Royals. Jadeja has been an integral part of CSK for many years, playing a key role in three of their five IPL title victories.
Reports indicate that Rajasthan Royals proposed including Pathirana alongside Jadeja in the trade for Samson, but CSK quickly countered with a suggestion to include Curran instead. The developments have further fuelled the buzz about Jadeja’s future with the franchise.
Meanwhile, former India and CSK all-rounder Suresh Raina has urged the franchise to retain Jadeja ahead of the 2026 IPL mini-auction. Raina, who has been a mainstay of CSK for many years, expressed his belief that Jadeja’s value to the team cannot be overstated.
“Ravindra Jadeja should be retained. He’s a gun player for CSK and has done exceptionally well for the team over the years. He has been an asset, and ‘Sir Ravindra Jadeja’ has to stay with the team,” Raina stated on JioStar.
Raina also recommended retaining Afghanistan’s mystery spinner Noor Ahmad, noting his potential, and suggested that MS Dhoni should be kept on board for the next season. Furthermore, he backed Ruturaj Gaikwad to continue as captain.
In his recommendations, Raina suggested CSK might consider releasing New Zealand opener Devon Conway, with plans to replace him with a local talent in the mini-auction. He also advised letting go of Deepak Hooda from the squad to make room for fresh talent.
As the IPL trade talks heat up, the future of several players, including Jadeja, is likely to be a topic of intense discussion over the coming weeks.
