Malolan Rangarajan has been officially appointed as the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) women’s team for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. He succeeds Luke Williams, who has served in the role since 2024.
The forthcoming season is scheduled to begin in early January. Williams, meanwhile, will be occupied with his responsibilities as head coach of the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash League, creating the need for a new appointment for RCB.
A former Tamil Nadu cricketer, Malolan Rangarajan has been associated with the RCB franchise for the past six years, fulfilling a variety of roles. In the last two years, he has served as the assistant coach of the women’s team, contributing to player development and team strategy.
Reflecting on his appointment, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana said,
“I share a great rapport with him and I’ve really enjoyed our cricketing discussions. Over the past three years, he has been a positive influence on the girls, and I’m confident that we will work well together, leading RCB to success in the upcoming season.”
RCB concluded the 2025 season in fourth place, having previously clinched the WPL title in 2024. Ahead of the new season, the franchise will announce their list of retained players on Thursday, alongside the other participating teams.
