Shahin Shah Afridi has been appointed as Pakistan’s new captain for One-Day International (ODI) cricket. Under his leadership, Pakistan secured a victory over South Africa in the first match of the three-match ODI series on Tuesday, 4th November, in Faisalabad. However, Afridi was unable to meet expectations in terms of his personal performance during the game.
On Wednesday, 5th November, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released its latest ODI rankings. The rankings revealed a drop in position for both Pakistan’s captain, Shahid Afridi, and star batsman, Babar Azam.
In the batting rankings, Babar Azam fell one place to 50th position with 728 rating points. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and opening batsman Fakhar Zaman both made progress, moving up one position to 23rd and 26th respectively.
Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma continues to hold the top spot in the ODI batting rankings, while Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran occupies the second spot.
In terms of bowling, Shahid Afridi dropped one place to 15th with 587 rating points. Another Pakistani bowler, Naseem Shah, saw a significant rise, climbing 10 spots to reach 33rd place with 524 points.
Afghan spin king Rashid Khan remains at the top of the ODI bowling rankings, with South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj in second place.
